The Navigator

Author: Lasha Bugadze

The Navigator is the most successful contemporary Georgian play which can be considered as dark comedy but the story there is more than just a comedy. It portrays a lonely man who has many problems in his monotonous life. While being in such a difficult situation, the man finds that a GPS navigation system is his only friend. The character even has conversations with the computer, which leads to a true friendship between the navigator and the man. However, it is not a mental disorder, but a real friendship which may lead them to love. L. Bugadze’s writing language can cleverly turn the subject of loneliness into a joyous piece of literature.
